Whats the big deal about Jeter missing the All Star Game?
1). He shouldnt even be on the team in the first place
2). He just got his 3000th hit and was quietly exhausted throughout the whole process.
3). He just spent 2 weeks on the DL! Whats the big deal America?! I’d rather have a rested Jeter winning games for us when they actually count.
Look at who is making a big deal about it, the commissioners office. They probably figured that if Jose Reyes who is on the DL could make the trip to acknowledge the fans, so could Jeter. What the commissioner needs to do realize is that:
1) Jeter was recently activated from the DL list. He had played every single game since coming off and he most likely is not 100%. Why risk getting re-injured for what? to play 3 or 4 innings?
2) He just reached a major milestone. Give the guy a break. A lot of people, and probably Jeter himself put a lot of pressure on him to get to that milestone so he doesn’t have to think about it. It can be mentally draining.
3) Believe it or not it actually costs money to get out there. I don’t think the team would charter a flight to send 1 let alone 3 injured players to go just say hi and then come home. And even if they didn’t use the team plane, he would most likely would of had to pay out of pocket, which for him would be pocket change. But still it would cost money.
4) Why not make a big deal about Rivera and A-rod? A-Rod is on the DL and he was voted in? Rivera was a player vote in and he opted not to go so why is the commissioner making such a big deal just about Jeter? Seriously if your gonna attack one player on the team, you should do it to all the players who opted not to go.
And the last thing the commissioners office needs to realize is
5) Reyes was in San Fransisco when his team was playing the Giants. They asked if they could share a plane to get to Arizona. It is easier to get to Arizona from the San Fransisco area than from New York area.
